☀ ???? We’ve made energy harvesting viable for many new applications.
Avnet’s most recent What’s Next magazine features a detailed breakdown of what’s going on inside a Power Management IC (PMIC) by Business Marketing Manager Rodrigo.
LFull article – earn about the advantages of using our PMIC to charge a battery and the role the hill-climbing algorithm plays in allowing our NEH2000BY PMIC to deliver 80% conversion efficiency. Not to mention, it doesn’t integrate a buck/boost converter, meaning it doesn’t need any external inductors.
Harvested energy sources are often unpredictable, and the power provided can vary. Photovoltaic (PV) cells are a good example. Running an application from PV cells makes a lot of sense, as it can potentially run continuously if the PMIC and PV can generate more energy than the application uses and store excess energy in a battery.
Even if the PMIC/PV subsystem only provides part of the total energy used, the application will run that much longer on a single charge or primary cell. Reducing battery waste is a priority in our mission to create a sustainable future for our electronics.
