⚡ Join us at Electrify Tomorrow – A comprehensive exploration of the latest electric vehicle technology hosted by Avnet Silica.

Steven & Nandor will go live on 7 March at 11:30 CET for their webcast – Using Nexperia MOSFETs in low-voltage high-power motor drive applications.

The growing prevalence of electric two-wheelers, city cars, and hybrid/plug-in electric vehicles demands an increased number of high-power motor drive applications. These applications must provide significant mechanical power, previously delivered through mechanical coupling to combustion engines. Beyond motor drives, MOSFETs play roles as isolation switches and in small DC/DC converters in such applications. Using the e-compressor as an illustration, we’ll examine MOSFET requirements for all three functions to assist in MOSFET selection. Additionally, we’ll discuss our tools that facilitate the MOSFET selection process.

BJT Application Handbook: Nexperia Design Engineer’s Guide

An essential resource by engineers for engineers: The BJT Application Handbook is now available as a free download.

This Design Engineer’s Guide is a unique collection of technical materials and application examples. Providing a better understanding of bipolar transistors, their fundamentals, thermal considerations, and application insights.

Like all our Design Engineer’s Guides, the BJT Handbook is intended to be a practical, comprehensive, and up-to-date reference work written by engineers for engineers.

Today, billions of NPN and PNP bipolar junction transistors are used in a diverse range of applications. The microelectronics industry has experienced massive innovation, which has resulted in minute device structures, nonetheless, discrete BJTs still maintain their relevance. These humble devices have themselves continue to evolve, with newer materials like silicon carbide now enabling environmentally sensitive electric vehicles that meet the performance and range requirements customers expect.

This handbook provides useful guidance on common topics and issues that the design engineer is likely to encounter. Engineers interested in thermal properties, packaging, reliability, and applications will gain practical insights. The handbook is intended as a ‘go-to’ reference, for those looking for technical information, fundamentals and design ideas.

Photos from Nexperia’s post

👋 Meet Lukas, he makes sure our customers in the automotive industry are making informed decisions and have everything needed to drive their innovative designs. He’s currently supporting one of the industry’s key Tier 1 vendors, as well as some car OEMs. And if you’re in Hamburg, you might have seen him on billboards and public transport as one of the faces of our halben Sachen campaign.

Born and raised in Hamburg, Lukas was always fascinated by technology. Not so much in the sense of the fundamentals of how things work, but more towards how technology is applied and shapes our society. This drove him to pursue a degree in Industrial Engineering and Business Management at the Fachhochschule Nordakademie Elmshorn. While there, he attended a job fair and happened upon the NXP booth and learned they were searching for work-study candidates. He admittedly didn’t know much about semiconductors outside of how they somehow made computers work but was excited about the prospect of both the tech and business sides of industrial engineering.

His time as a company-sponsored student gave him the chance to experience work in several different departments, leading to his first job as a Junior Product Manager of ESD Protection in 2018, just one year after Nexperia split off from NXP Semiconductors.

“I’ve been here for 10 years, and I can tell everyone here is passionate about their work. At the risk of sounding cliché, it reminds me of a successful sports team. Every individual brings in their own talents, pulls their own weight, and works together to “win.”

What excites you most about the future of tech?

“We’re reaching a turning point for tech. The stage is set for innovation to make way for evolution. What’s the next step for communication? Transportation?

Whatever the next megatrend is, it will require semiconductors, and Nexperia will be a part of it.”

One last thing, how would you translate the tagline for our campaign – Du magst keine halben Sachen?

“That’s a tough one. I would say something like – You don’t like doing things halfway?”

#fyi A semiconductor is a Halbleiter auf Deutsch.

A-selection Zener diodes offer game changing +- 1 % tolerance

Our A-selection diodes set the new standard in voltage precision by providing a ± 1% tolerance.

The Zener diode range covers every application from 2.4 V to 75 V while providing a precise voltage reference with the industry’s lowest tolerance. By replacing B- or C-selection devices with pad-compatible A-selection Zener devices, engineers can go to the limits of the MOSFET, if applied to limit voltage for the gate-source path or drain-gate path or choose from a wider variety of suitable MOSFETs. The devices feature a non-repetitive peak reverse power dissipation of ≤ 40 W, total power dissipation ≤ 250 mW and low differential thermal resistance. The low tolerance provides a higher precision voltage, which is especially important for test and measurement applications.

One more thing – we can deliver cost savings of up to 20%. Find out more – https://www.nexperia.com/products/diodes/zener-diodes#/p=1,s=0,f=,c=,rpp=,fs=0,sc=,so=,es=

Automotive ESD Protection

We’ve got all your ESD protection needs covered.

As integration levels continue to increase, and process geometries continue to shrink, ESD-induced damage is a more present threat than ever before. Adding comprehensive ESD protection to a system isn’t just smart engineering, it’s also a low-cost, easy way to prevent problems later in the product life cycle: An ESD problem that remains hidden in a system, poses an increased risk of field failures, reduced system life, and other quality-related problems that are difficult to manage and expensive to resolve.

We offer more than 400 protection devices from single-protection diodes to complete, highly integrated companion ICs. Join Taimoor as he digs into two of our main categories of automotive electrostatic discharge protection: Leaded Surface Mount Device (SMD) packages like SOT23, SOT323, and SOD323, and Leadless Dual Flat No-lead (DFN) packages. The modern leadless DFN packages contribute to industry miniaturization, with a focus on those with side-wettable flanks for improved solderability and automated visual inspection.
